Task

Overview

Manage local AI coding tasks.

gmc task manages local AI coding tasks backed by a repo-family ledger. Each task records its worktree, agent session, runs, events, and logs under the repository's Git common directory.

The default workflow is plan -> code -> review -> ship.

Minimal flow

gmc task add "Fix worktree cleanup"
gmc task start <task-id>
gmc task advance <task-id>
gmc task show <task-id>

Workflow config

Workflow nodes come from:

~/.config/gmc/workflow.yaml
~/.gmc/workflow.yaml

If no user workflow exists, gmc uses the embedded default workflow. The built-in workflow starts each agent with its own approval settings; nothing bypasses prompts or sandboxes. A workflow.yaml replaces the built-in workflow entirely — to run agents unattended, set explicit node commands such as command: codex --dangerously-bypass-approvals-and-sandbox.

Runs and events

gmc task run <task-id> -- <command> runs a command in the task worktree and records it in the ledger with logs, exit code on failure, and timing. gmc task show lists recorded runs, and state changes are recorded in the task's events.jsonl on a best-effort basis.

Maintenance

gmc task refresh reconciles records with runtime state: agent runs whose tmux session is gone become exited, and headless runs whose supervising process is gone become lost. gmc task gc previews cleanup — dry-run by default, --apply kills live, unattached sessions of finished nodes or done tasks; worktrees, branches, and ledger files are never removed.
